Tanzania is rewarding throughout the year. The best time depends on the places you want to visit, the wildlife experience you hope for, your tolerance for rain, and your preferred budget and crowd levels. Weather patterns vary, so treat the guide below as a planning tool rather than a guarantee.

June to October Dry season

This is a popular period for wildlife viewing in the Northern Circuit. Vegetation is generally thinner and animals gather near water sources. Days are often sunny, with cooler mornings and evenings. It is also a busy period, so popular lodges and camps should be booked early.

November to March Green season and short rains

Rainfall often arrives in short bursts, landscapes become green, and there can be excellent birding and fewer visitors. In the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area, this period can be particularly rewarding for the wildebeest calving season, although wildlife movements depend on rainfall.

April and May Long rains

Some camps and roads may be less accessible, but travellers can find quieter parks, greener scenery, and value in selected properties. This can be a good choice for flexible travellers who do not mind rain and wish to avoid peak-season crowds.

Serengeti migration

The migration moves through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in response to rain and grazing. Rather than choosing dates only, choose the region that is most likely to suit the season. We will recommend the best current area and explain that wildlife movement cannot be guaranteed.

Kilimanjaro

The drier periods, commonly January to early March and June to October, are often preferred for climbing. Conditions can change quickly at any time of year, and every climb requires preparation for cold, wind, rain, and snow. Route choice, acclimatisation time, and guide support matter as much as the month you travel.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is warm year-round. Beach conditions, diving, wind, and rainfall vary by coast and season. Tell us whether your priority is beaches, diving, kite surfing, culture, or a safari-and-beach combination so we can recommend the right area and timing.
